Professional Sports Scheduling

The Barcelogic research group at the UPC has developed new, powerful software for professional sports scheduling. It has been successfully applied during the last five years in the Dutch professional football Ere- and Eerste Divisies.

An adequate schedule is not only important for sportive and economical fairness among teams and for public order. It also plays a very important role reducing costs and increasing revenues, e.g., the value of TV rights. See here for more details (4-page pdf).

Our technology allows us to solve in seconds, fully automatically, problems with thousands of constraints of many different types. We are not aware of any other technology at this level. Since each league has different specific kinds of constraints, our flexible logic-based modeling becomes a crucial factor for reducing development costs.
